Owner-Built Designs, LLC is a family owned and operated business. The president, Jim Kane, has been part of the construction industry since 1974. He started as a laborer and during his 32 years in construction he has worked as a journeyman carpenter, mechanical systems installer, and heavy equipment operator . After spending almost six years in the Army Jim returned to college in 1993 to earn his degree in architecture. After graduation in 1998, Jim went to work in the Seattle area to provide design and drafting support for successful architects in that region, including Jim Cutler, FAIA. Jim's experience since college has included the drafting plans of million dollar homes for developers, modeling multi-million dollar homes for Jim Cutler (Meteor Vineyards Estate), and managing large design projects for the Navy and Air Force. Currently he is a full-time architect working for the Air Force.
The companies vice-president, Lilia Kane, is experienced in business and office management. She has worked for large corporations such as Xerox and Texas Instruments.
Together, Jim & Lilia, have built their own house so they are aware of the challenges that face many owner-builders. They have combined their experience and knowledge to offer you the level of support that you need to get started with your do-it-yourself project.
